Fužine is a picturesque mountain town and probably the most famous tourist center in Gorski kotar, and for a reason! It is located at 730 m above the sea, between the sea and the mountains, and is well-connected traffic-wise.
Fužine was founded in the 17th century when the Zrinski family began to dig iron ore here.
Fužine is known for its excellent offer of mountain delicacies as well as New Year's Eve party at noon.
There are as many as 3 reservoir lakes in the vicinity of Fužine. A 7 km promenade runs around Lake Bajer, ideal for cycling. There is a tourist train (except in the winter months).
A must-see attraction is the Vrelo cave with the water source within the cave. The fact that this cave has no stairs makes it very unique.
Among the cultural sights is the church of Saint Anthony of Padua which is the largest sacral object in the region of Gorski kotar.
For a family outing, we also recommend a visit to the City of Roswell, a movie set where a film about Winnetou was made.
