Overview

At the crossroads of myth and history, where the azure sea touches the shores of the Kvarner islands, begins this journey through stories thousands of years old.

From the wooden ships of Illyrian seafarers and Roman ports, to fragrant gardens and hidden coves – each day reveals a new layer of Kvarner’s story.

Here, on the same shores, centuries apart, Greek hero myths, the strength of Illyrian sailors, and the legacy of Roman builders meet.

You will sail the sea routes of the Argonauts, explore archaeological sites, taste the flavours of the Mediterranean and connect with the nature that has shaped island life for centuries.

This is an invitation to nine days of discovery – for curious travellers who want to feel the breath of the past while enjoying the beauty and rhythm of today’s island life.

More than two thousand years ago, the Argonauts set sail on the legendary ship Argo in search of the Golden Fleece.

Their journey, interwoven with adventures and encounters with wondrous places, took them far across the seas – all the way to the shores where amber, the “tears of the sun”, was traded.

This precious stone, wrapped in secrets and legends, travelled along ancient maritime routes connecting the distant north with the warm Mediterranean.

The Kvarner islands, situated at the crossroads of these ancient routes, still preserve traces of past civilizations – from Illyrian heritage and Roman villas to stories of seafarers who sought their place under the sun.

Here, among the blue waves and scents of Mediterranean herbs, myth and history merge into an unforgettable journey – one that you can now experience yourself.

Day 1 – Seafarers and the Traces of Wooden Ships
Arrival and accommodation on the island of Krk – your first encounter with the sea and the scents of the Mediterranean.

Visit to the Duboak Maritime Heritage Centre – discover the story of wooden ships, the craft of shipbuilding, and the maritime traditions that have shaped island life for centuries.

Walk through the Cickini forest – the path leads to an archaeological site and a mysterious ancient trail hidden among the trees. Strolling along the quiet forest path, it’s easy to imagine the footsteps of travellers from two thousand years ago. This walk is self-guided, so you can explore and feel the spirit of this special place at your own pace.

Afternoon at the Maritime Heritage Centre of the Town of Krk – a collection of ship models and maritime artefacts curated by Željko Skomeršić, a passionate lover of the sea and maritime heritage. Each exhibit tells stories of ships and people who lived with the sea, with every detail infused with love for tradition. Entrance is free; donations are welcome.

Dinner on the Krk waterfront – free time to enjoy local cuisine. Our tip: look for dishes inspired by antiquity and the flavours that have long defined this region.
Dinner is not included in the package price.

Included:

  • Entrance and tour of the Duboak Maritime Heritage Centre

  • Self-guided walk to the Cickini archaeological site

  • Visit to the Maritime Heritage Centre of the Town of Krk (donations welcome)

Day 2 – In the Realm of the Illyrians: A Quest for Traces of the Past
The day begins with an archaeological route connecting Omišalj and Dobrinj – places whose Illyrian hillforts still preserve stories from over two thousand years ago. Whether explored with a local guide or through our interactive mobile app, you’ll discover hidden details that bring to life the daily routines and defensive strength of prehistoric communities. If you choose the guided option, the guide drives their own vehicle while you follow in yours.

Next, visit a family-owned cheese dairy – tour the production area and learn about the tradition of cheesemaking. Afterwards, enjoy a lunch combining local flavours with traditional recipes.

In the afternoon, we head to Vrbnik – where history and the present meet at every corner. Through an archaeology-focused tour, you’ll learn more about the past of this stone town, ending the day with a wine tasting of Vrbnik’s famous wines.

The evening brings adventure: an outdoor escape game – a quest for hidden Vrbnik landmarks.

Included:

  • Guide (if selected) – own vehicle, guide drives separately

  • Entrance and tour of the family-owned cheese dairy

  • Lunch: cheese tasting, homemade šurlice with goulash, salad, dessert, juice, water or wine

Day 3 – Roman Luxury and Mosaic Traces
The day begins with a visit to Fulfinum in Omišalj – a Roman city located right by the sea, with well-preserved remains of the forum, basilica, and residential quarters. Walking among the stone walls and mosaics, it’s easy to imagine life in this luxurious coastal settlement nearly two thousand years ago.

Next, we head to an immortelle plantation, where you’ll hear the story of Pompey’s and Caesar’s naval battles fought in these very waters. The scents of immortelle and views of the sea create a unique backdrop for these fascinating historical events.

In the afternoon, enjoy a guided tour of the town of Krk, exploring Roman remains, layers of history, and the villae rusticae that tell the story of life in ancient times.

The day ends with a tasting of homemade prosciutto, where each bite becomes a journey through local flavours and tradition.

A day dedicated to the sea and the hidden wonders of the Kvarner archipelago. We set off on a private 5-hour boat trip, during which you’ll discover the beauty of Plavnik and the nearby islets of Kormati.

On the steep cliffs of Plavnik nest the griffon vultures – impressive, wide-winged birds that soar over the sea and rocks like mythical guardians of the island.

During the cruise, you’ll enjoy swimming and relaxing on hidden beaches, accessible only by sea. Between Punat and Stara Baška lie some of the most beautiful beaches of Krk, known for their turquoise waters and white pebbles.

Return to the harbour in the afternoon, with the rest of the day free to prepare for tomorrow’s journey.

  • Private boat trip (approx. 5 hours)

  • Visit to Plavnik Island and the islets of Kormati

  • Observation of griffon vultures

Day 5 – Cres and Osor: Towns Where the Sea Meets

Today we travel towards Lošinj, passing through the island of Cres. The route takes us by ferry from Krk to Cres, followed by a scenic drive along the island’s road. (Ferry fare not included in the package price).

Our first stop is Cres town – where the charm of the old town reveals itself in stone houses, narrow streets, and the scent of Mediterranean herbs.

We continue to Lubenice – a place with a mythical view from the top of a cliff and a story of centuries-old sheep farming tradition. The view stretches over the deep blue sea and hidden beaches far below.

Next is Osor – a historic harbour that was once an important maritime hub and the meeting point of two islands. Today, Osor preserves its rich cultural heritage and a calm, almost timeless atmosphere.

All visits on this day can be experienced with a guide or with our interactive self-guide app, allowing you to explore at your own pace.

The day ends with arrival on Lošinj and accommodation.

Included:

  • Visit to Cres town, Lubenice, and Osor

  • Option of live guiding or exploration via self-guide app

Note: Ferry ride not included in the package price.

Day 6 – Apoxyomenos and Scents of the Past
The morning begins with a visit to the Museum of Apoxyomenos – a unique space dedicated to the bronze statue of a Greek athlete from the 2nd–1st century BC, discovered in the waters around Lošinj. The exhibition reveals the fascinating story of this extraordinary archaeological find, its journey through the centuries, and its connection to the local sea.

In the afternoon, we visit the Garden of Fragrances – a place where the scents and flavours of the ancient Mediterranean come alive. During a guided aromatic walk and tasting, you will discover the plants that shape Lošinj’s landscape, hear the story of the garden, and taste Lošinj herbal tea or fragrant liqueur.

The evening ends with a romantic picnic at the Providenca viewpoint – enjoying the sunset with a basket of Mediterranean delicacies: prosciutto, buđola, žlomprt, young Pag cheese, homemade sausage, capers, stuffed olives, peppers, island salad, fresh fruit, and lemon tart. Every bite carries its own story, while the view over the open sea and the stars creates the perfect backdrop for relaxation and conversation.

Susak, the island of sandy beaches and unique traditional costumes, preserves legends and customs passed down through generations. Its sandy streets and fragrant gardens create an atmosphere unlike anywhere else in the Adriatic.

Ilovik, known as the “island of flowers”, welcomes you with oleander-lined paths and the scent of lavender. Its quiet coves and historic churches reveal the calmer side of island life.
