Risnjak National Park in Gorski Kotar is a place of exceptional natural beauty and is rightly considered one of the most beautiful mountains in Croatia. The park's basis consists of the mountain Risnjak with the highest peaks Veliki Risnjak of 1528 m and Snježnik of 1506 m.
Risnjak is widely known for the source of the river Kupa. Kupa springs in an oval lake of unrealistically beautiful turquoise color below 100 m high vertical rocks, at 321 m above sea level. The depth of the source of the river Kupa is still unknown. The deepest dive into the source of the river so far was up to 154 m. From the depth of the mountain springs the river Kupa - clear, strong and enchanting.
The upper course of the river Kupa is also called the Magical Valley of Butterflies and is known for its lush and diverse flora and fauna.
Risnjak and its endless mountain forests are a refuge for large beasts: lynx, bear and wolf. Risnjak is named after the lynx, the most secretive inhabitant of the mountain Risnjak.
Risnjak - a place where the Dinarides and the Alps, the Littoral and the interior of Croatia, the Mediterranean and Pannonia meet, will delight you with its imaginative and amazing karst phenomena.
